Rosie’s PCV (Day 16)

Today is the day for the next subcut and also the PCV test.

This morning, Rosie woke me up at 4am.

Yes, 4am.

She mewed loudly and by now, I have sort of learned to interpret her various mews along with her facial expressions. She wanted something from downstairs, so I had to get up, go down to close all the windows, then let her go down.

What she wanted was to drink water from the kitchen. That’s all. There’s a “Bird Family Water Bowl” in the kitchen. Rosie just wanted to drink water from there. We have a bowl of water for her in the room upstairs, but no, she has to drink from the family water bowl.

She didn’t want food at 4am.

Later, she ate, with Heidi.

She ate her kibble, but this time she asked for something else.

She wanted Cindy Chicken. Wetfood.

She didn’t want BARF, though.

At 10.30am, we made the trip to the vet’s.

The vet did a blood profile. Because it’s done with a machine (and by the spinning method), we cannot compare the numbers.

Previously, on 2nd March, Rosie scored 27% (on the spinning method where the lower boundary for the normal range is 28%).

Today, Rosie scored 23.4% on the machine where the lower boundary for the normal range is 24%.

Based on the figures above, the vet said we could say that there is no change in the PCV.

Of course, we were hoping her PCV would be in the normal range, but it’s only been four days. Recovery and healing takes time, especially for an FIV+ cat.

No change is good enough.

The rest of the blood results indicate the possibility of a blood parasite, which was one of our suspicions right from the start.

The advice from the vet is to continue giving Rosie all that we are giving.

The trip to and from the vet was very stressful for Rosie. She was making non-stop noise in the car.

Rosie was also given subcut fluids today.

Until now, Rosie has eaten 5 small meals. The vet said small meals is much better than large meals at this point, so we are okay in that department. She still prefers kibble, but I sneak in some Primal too.

We have a long way to go….

Thank you very much for all your kind wishes and prayers.
