A tribute to two people on Father’s Day

On this Father’s Day, I would like to pay tribute to two role models in my life, my father and my grandfather.

Thank you, Pa, for teaching me by example to be very hardworking, to take pride in my work and to “berkhidmat kepada negara”. My father was a man of very few words, but his influence in me is huge. I think I take after my father in many ways. He too didn’t like holidays and was a stay-at-home person! And my father was very kind to animals.

Thank you, Yea Yea, for teaching me the power of silence. My grandfather was also a man of very few words, but he took a great interest in everything that I did. Even on his deathbed, he wanted to know everything that I did in school and how I performed in the inter-district debates. He collected books for us to read – I remember every month, he would pass us his Readers’ Digest.
The photo shows my grandfather carrying me!
My father loved music and this rubbed off on me in a very impactful extent. From Keroncong, oldies to the classics, my father exposed me to them from a very young age. He never said a word. We just listened….and our lives are so much richer for it! Thank you, Papa.

This is for you, Papa: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k–_Xnm1efg
