I would like to share my story of a mange cat that I fostered 3 months now.
On 11th August 2023, I received an S.O.S. from a friend who said her friend rescued a ‘kurap’ kitten. It had a collar and was obviously an abandoned pet. The rescuer could not foster as she has 4 dogs that were barking incessantly with the kitten in the house. She was afraid that her condo neighbours would file a complain. Although my hands were full, I had no heart to say no, with that sad face peeking from the picture sent to me.
I took him in and treated him right away. I gave him coconut oil treatment; applying it liberally all over him for a few days till the dry flaky skin fell off. It took nearly 4 weeks, but his mange totally went away. Since then, he has since been deflead and deworm. He is about 6 – 7 months old now and will soon be neutered. He seems to be mixed Mained Coon as he has very large paws and at 6-7 months, larger that a few of my smaller adult cats! He is super duper affectionate and loves to snuggle up to you.
I cannot understand how some people can “love” a pet when they are cute, but throw them out when they are sick or unsightly. Can you see the difference a little care can do?
He is up for adoption and I will screen the adopters strictly as I want him to find the best loving home there is. Don’t you think he looks so cute?
Note : I did not bring him to the Vet for invermectin injection as I did not know his health condition and he was only about 3 months old – too young. Invermectin is a very ‘hot’ medication and if the cat cannot endure it, can go into an epileptic fit or worse, cardiac arrest. There are other side effects which you can check on google. I had personally experienced an adult cat getting an epileptic fit and thankfully, she survived. We gave her the coconut oil treatment instead, and I have been a convert since.
