Science-based nutrition for animals

Still more on nutrition, Su Ann shared the following link which would be useful for those interested in research studies:

And oh, by the way, today all of my brood except Cleo ate the home-cooked meal mixed with canned food. Bunny and Tabs ate home-cooked on its own. The rest did not mind home-cooked either. But Cleo was clearly turned off and walked away. She came back later asking for food, so I gave her canned.

Ever since I switched all to canned food, I have not given kibbles anymore.

For those who feed raw or home cooked, this is an interesting read as well (http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index.php/raw-meat-and-bone-diets-for-dogs-its-enough-to-make-you-barf/)

My dogs get about 50% raw and 50% kibble/canned. I would feed 100% raw, but I don’t trust it (store bought) to be 100% nutritionally sound, so I still supplement with kibble and canned, which are highly regulated by the relevant govt. agencies and are 100% nutritionally sound. It’s a just-in-case scenario. Home cooked/raw food varies in terms of nutrition from batch to batch, and since it’s home made, it’s hard to tell exactly how much of what is inside–it’s a worry of mine that it might be lacking in something important, hence why I still feed kibble/canned food as well.

I think it is a better idea to mix canned and dry-food. Dry-food, especially those ‘supposed’ to help dental-health for the cats. Apparently the chewing helps to clean and strengthen their teeth. Better check with the vet what I write here.

I like to give my cats canned as well, although I dislike canned food even for myself, is to make sure if there is any tooth problems, the cats can still managed with soft food.

Used to cook food for my cats once a day. I still do that, but not that religious at present due to family situations. But your home-cooked cat food makes me want to do that again. I still believe what is good for me should be good for the cats. AND the other way round of course ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s hope 2012 is a much better year for ANIMALS and HUMAN !!

Wish you all A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR !
